Holiday Gift Guide: Girl Gadget Chic

Aaah technology. These days we're never without it, no matter how often it can feel like an electronic leash. The more women utilize technology, the more we can accomplish in one day. Watch out boys, we've come to play with your toys - they're not just for you anymore.

    KangaRoom Personal Media Case $12.99

When I leave the house to attend an industry event, I always carry way too much technology with me. I never know will be there so I'll need my digital camera or my Flip for a video interview opportunity. Of course I will need to edit it all on the fly, but where would I store the files? What I love about the KangaRoom Personal Media Case is that it is designed for on the go. The details are smart and functional. The case not only features elastic straps to hold your gadgets in place, but it also comes with a zippered pouch to hold all the odds and ends. Never forget your charger, accessory or game pack ever again. Plus, you can charge your favorite gadget while it's still in the case. Genius, no?

ClickFree Portable External Hard Drive, 160 GB, $71.25

If you haven't noticed, laptops keep getting smaller and smaller, making them even more functional and portable. However, that portability comes at a price - a price that is usually paid by hard drive space. I love the ease of the ClickFree. Simply plug in the device to your computer, and the device contains all the information it needs to be compatible with your computer. Transfer files from computer to computer, backup your work, or port your latest video project. Note: ClickFree requires the use of 2 usb ports to gain the necessary power to run the device. Some computer models cannot power the device without the use of an external power source, available through ClickFree.

    Flip Ultra, 60 Minutes, $129.00

Flip might be the greatest thing to happen to video since the internet. Portable and incredibly easy to use, you can capture moments from silly to serious in a matter of seconds. Models even come with built in video editing software - there's no moment too big or small, plus they come in fun colors and customizable models. If you have a budding blogger on your Christmas list, make sure you put her name a on well-wrapped Flip.

    Nintendo DS Lite, Silver, $159

I can't count the number of people I have seen playing a Nintendo DS Lite on the L train, but it was many my interest was piqued. How could someone play a game on a screen so small? What was the big attraction? Little did I know that a 30 minute train ride would suddenly dissolve into a seemingly 5 minute experience. I became entranced playing Mystery Case Files: Millionheir. If you thought handheld video games were for kids, you were mistaken. There are a number of games for the DS designed to improve vision, brain function and memory. If you have a commute that requires an ipod, consider the DS. Besides, who couldn't stand to improve their brain function?

Holiday Gift Guide: Baby It's Cold Outside!

Some might consider my afternoon activities crazy. I trekked 7 blocks to the grocery store while it poured snow in 30 degree weather. I could have just gone to the corner deli, but I wasn't worried - I knew I'd be warm. I was wearing my cable twist scarf and cowl headwrap.

    Bombshell Studios Cable Twist Scarves

When was I was introduced to the Cable Twist scarves, I immediately fell in love. For years, my family members have been knitting scarves and blankets for me, but never with the thick cable detailing. I am such a sucker for cable knit, I buy a chunky cable knit sweater every year. These scarves are incredibly warm, and the detail instantly upgrades them from family gifts to chic. Buy two or more and save $10 on each additional scarf - there's a color sure to please everyone!

    Jaybird Designs Cowl Headwrap

In the winter, one can end up wearing a lot of layers. Between the gloves, scarves, hats...something is bound to get lost. I love the the Cowl Headwrap from Jaybird Designs combines the scarf and hat, plus keeps your face and neck snuggly warm. I love to wear it over my headphones - it completely encompasses my head and neck, and manages to look darling while doing so. I must admit - while everyone else was shivering, I felt positively divine. Talk about a truly unique find!

Holiday Gift Guide: Prescriptives Makes You Aglow

When I think about color cosmetics, Prescriptives isn't a brand that stands out to me. I know they custom blend foundation and have a pretty decent selection of mascaras, but beyond that my knowledge is limited. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to try their new Holiday collection, Aglow.

I hear the words "all-over highlighter" attached to a jar full of beads and I become suspicious. Imagine my surprise and delight when the Aglow All-Over Highlighter is actually a stellar product. The sparkle is so fine that it actually brightens your skin instead of attracting attention to pores and imperfections. The final color is a sheer wash of the slightest pink shimmer, even though the jar contains silver, pink and brown beads. It makes sense that a company capable of custom blending foundation could perfectly blend a highlighter. Since I am so blush sensitive, I'm quite fond of using this product as my one and only cheek color.

The real shock from my Aglow experience was how much I love the Warm Eye Color Quad. How useful could a quad of neutral toned eyeshadows be? Very useful indeed. I turned these four shadows into the perfect party smokey eye. First I used the top left cream shade all over from lid to browbone. Next, I used the bottom left shade and blended it well along my crease and slightly down to my lid. After that, I used the shimmery shade from the top right corner to highlight my browbone and inner corner of my lower lash line. To complete the look, I used the deepest cocoa shade from the bottom right as a smudged liner for the perfect smokey eye. Don't second guess neutral-toned quads ladies. They pack a mighty punch.

Everyone knows Goody for their bobby pins and hair elastics available at local drugstores - but did you know they make great hair accessories as well?  They've created a stunning Holiday collection (and a stunning Holiday lookbook) that is sure to not only make you dash to your local drugstore in search of the styles, but it will also give you plenty of hairstyle ideas for the Holiday season. Our picks include the jeweled headbands - a headband is a quick way to cover up a bad hair day and channel Gossip Girl all at the same time.

Holiday Gift Guide: Urban Decay's Beauty Bounty

Admittedly, I've never truly experienced Urban Decay until recently. Others would praise the line, but my scope was limited to the wildly popular Primer Potion. After being able to take these products away from the store element with elaborate merchandising, I was able to truly appreciate the high quality of Urban Decay's products.

The line has a lot of small details that can easily be overlooked if you become overwhelmed by the mass amounts of purple packaging and graffiti details. This Holiday season, Urban Decay has compiled some pretty amazing gifts for anyone on your list.

    24/7 Eyeliner Sets $29

These eyeliners glide on like butter - they color payoff is amazing, and they blend well to boot. I like how the colors are grouped - VIP is for the bright color loving club kids and Velvet Rope is more muted earthy colors. The liners aren't full size - they're about as big as the palm of my hand - so they're perfect for your traveling gal pal.

    Sustainable Shadow Box $36

I cannot say enough good things about Urban Decay's shadow formula - these are for the girl who likes serious color payoff - with or without the help of UDPP. Not only does the Sustainable Shadow box come with a brush and a travel Primer Potion, the packaging is created from Sustainable materials (like bamboo). Best-selling colors included are: YDK, Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, Flipside, Flash, Grifter, Oil Slick, Uzi, Kiddie Pool, Half Baked and Twice Baked.

    Book Of Shadows $45

I consider Book of Shadows to be the creme de la creme of eyeshadow palettes. Considering it's the most elaborate and largest palette Urban Decay has ever offered, I'd say $45 is one heck of steal. Not only does it include 8 best-selling shades, but it also houses 8 shades never offered before. The top features pop-up cutouts that remind me of pop-up cards my parents gave me when I was younger. Even though this palette is sold out online (I truly wish everyone could have one), it's worth the added effort to call local Sephora locations to get one of your very own. It's a Sephora exclusive, so get to calling!

Even better than palettes full of eyeshadow are the stocking stuffers!

Limited Edition Luxury Lipstick Cap $15

This cap, designed to replace the standard issue, plastic Urban Decay lids, adds a certain heft and glamour to any Urban Decay lipstick. After slipping this into her stocking, she won't know what shade to choose.

    Stoned Poison Ring

The Stoned Poison ring brings a whole new meaning to lip gloss rings. Others may be cheaply constructed, but not this one. This ring means business (and by business I mean it's hefty), and comes with three shades of gloss, depending on your mood. What's not to love?

Holiday Gift Guide: Dirt Devil Designer Series

You probably feel the same way I do about vacuum cleaners - they're expensive and they remind you that you have housework to do, right? After experiencing the Dirt Devil Designer Series, I've had to reconsider my thoughts.  Not only are these cleaning products sleekly designed, but they're relatively inexpensive.

The product I had an opportunity to try out was the KWIK, a sleek detail vacuum.  I had never seen such a vacuum - particularly because this doesn't look like a vacuum.  To be honest, it looks more like a $300 futuristic phone than a cleaning appliance.  For only $32.99, you can give the gift of clean to your college bound child, the hostess of your latest party or as a hint to your significant other.

What I loved about it:  Obviously, the design was the biggest WOW factor with the KWIK.  It's a vacuum cleaner - it does what it's supposed to and does it well.  I found it very hand in my New York City apartment, where I have hardwood floors and a dog that likes to shed more than I'd like.  The slim nozzle makes it easy to pull hair from those hard to reach places and all around my desk.

What I didn't love:  I'm not thrilled that the KWIK charges via usb (standard packaging).  I am as high tech as the next girl, but I always run low on usb ports and it's difficult to keep something like an applicance charging for the standard 16 hours before first use.  I would have preferred a larger bag to catch all the hair my dog produces, but it is certainly adequate.

If you're looking for gifts on a budget, the KWIK makes a great choice.  If you're in the market for similarly designed appliances that pack more punch, check out th entire Designer Series by Dirt Devil.

Holiday Gift Guide: Dress Your Lips

    Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Extreme

    $9.99

Sally Hansen Natural Butter Lip Treats

    $9.99

A great lipgloss has the ability to transform a woman multiple times a day. Just think about the number of times per day you change your lip color and how magical that change can make you feel. That's why every day I carry at least three lip colors - I can never pin-point what direction my moods are going to take over the course of the day. Every woman deserves options, and you deserve to give them to her - in the form of the perfect Holiday gift.

Sally Hansen Natural Butter Lip Treats

I simply adore this set of sheer lipsticks and glosses. It's perfect for any woman, young or old. Teens will adore the neutrality of the sheer colors and glosses and women of any age will enjoy the compact size. Made of 97% naturally derived ingredients, I dare you to find a woman these aren't perfect for. Sally Hansen products are found in drugstores nationwide.

Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Extreme Holiday Set

There are many lip products out there with the promise of plumping your lips - some deliver, some don't. Similar to another major branding utilizing cinnamon for plumping but at half the price, Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Extreme delivers. The initial shock of cinnamon certainly takes some getting used to, but once you get acclimated you'll wish for the sting again and again. The bee stung lip result is better than collagen injections without the pain or "ugly" period. For the Holiday season, Sally Hansen has created an adorable gift set, complete with a gold encased, full sized Lip Inflation Extreme, plus 2 mini sheer pink glosses in a darling lip pouch. Pucker up! Sally Hansen products are found in drugstores nationwide.

Dianne Brill Panties In A Bunch

Former party girl Dianne Brill has turned her glamorous blonde-bombshell status into a successful cosmetics line. In her aptly named gift set, Panties In A Bunch, each gloss is named after a type of panty. Each pot of gloss is wrapped like a bon-bon, helping remind you that makeup should be a treat to yourself. Unlike other cosmetics companies, Brill pays equal attention to the packaging and the product. The sublimely pigmented colors are tacky, not sticky, although I would highly recommend applying the gloss with a brush vs your finger. If you're looking for a gift set that both delivers and delights, give the gift of Dianne Brill.
